About Me

Professional Experience

My professional experience is in health care provision initially as a registered nurse and then as a midwife and community nurse in Scotland. I later spent some time managing primary health care programs in developing countries and areas of conflict. My exposure to and practical experience of primary health care and community development was subsequently consolidated through a Master of Science in International Health. Motivated by personal and professional experience I became increasingly interested in education, specifically the processes that effect change in both learning and teaching. Following migration to Australia in 2000 I was offered an academic position at CQUniversity. Since my appointment I have fulfilled a number of roles which include co-ordination of a diverse suite of undergraduate and postgraduate programs of study and a range of courses integral to the Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Health Promotion and Postgraduate Midwifery program. In 2010 I completed my PhD, which explored and explained the conditions and consequences of learner-learner interaction and knowledge construction in an online course. In 2011 I extended this research through an externally funded, cross- institutional, multidisciplinary project which examined not only learner-learner interaction but also learner-teacher and learner-content interaction in a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
