About Me

I am a nurse by profession, having started my career in Zimbabwe in the 1970's. I have also worked in South Africa, New Zealand and of course, Australia. I have diverse clinical experience which has included trauma critical care, cardiothoracic intensive care, general intensive care, primary health care and industrial nursing. In Africa we also had to complete diplomas in community health, midwifery and mental health as post basic qualifications to general nursing. I have considerable management experience, from being manager in the intensive care units to a director of nursing for surgical services. I have also held advisory and project officer roles, my most fulfilling role being that of area education manager and nurse practitioner project officer in the New South Wales outback. My academic role has largely focused on advanced practice, during which time I have been a program coordinator and have taught in the nurse practitioner programs in Australia and New Zealand. My research focuses on workforce and primary health care. I am particularly interested in how nurses can support access to care and the equity in that care. My interest in the workforce lies in advancing practice, and addressing issues that hinder nurses from managing care.
